The Archbishop of Cardiff, His Grace The Most Reverend Mark O’Toole, has opened The Carriage House – the new home of the Archdiocese of Cardiff’s Safeguarding Team. Located in Talbot Street, Cardiff, the centre has taken many months to refurbish and has been designed to meet the needs of the safeguarding team and those requiring their services.
On it’s website the Archdiocese says “this investment in safeguarding by the Archdiocese demonstrates our commitment to supporting those who have been harmed and to helping create a safer environment within the Archdiocese.”
Archbishop Mark conducted a brief Liturgy of the Word and Blessing. He prayed for the safeguarding team and those who come to them, expressing his hope that those who work in the building will make the right decisions and carry them out with fairness and compassion. Afterwards, he went around and blessed each room.
Archbishop Mark concluded by unveiling the plaque at the Carriage House. The Safeguarding Team and staff at Archbishop’s House were invited for tea and cake.
Chris Mullane, Head of Safeguarding, said the opening was an important day for his team.
“We have embarked on a new chapter for safeguarding within the Archdiocese,” said Chris.
“The Carriage House offers a safe space for anyone wishing to speak to us about safeguarding matters and provides the ideal working environment for our team of safeguarding officers.”
Chris heads up a team of four people, including Annie, who is the victim care officer, Joanne and Carole, who are the Safeguarding Support Officers, and Matthew, who is the DBS Administrator. Sarah-Jane, the Safeguarding Coordinator for Menevia, is also based here.
